Introduction to Shortcodes
Hello, my name is Chris. In this article, I’ll give you a high-level overview of shortcodes and how they’re used in email and text templates inside LeadCenter.
What Shortcodes Do
Shortcodes pull in fields from a contact, appointment, or event.
This lets you automate emails and text messages without needing to manually enter names, dates, or other details each time.
When you sign up for LeadCenter, the platform includes built-in templates for both email and SMS.
Example:
Here’s the 24-hour appointment reminder email. You can see the name, the subject line, and the body of the message. Inside both the subject and message body, shortcodes are used to personalize content.
You’ll notice shortcodes throughout the email. They are usually surrounded by parentheses.
For example:
- One shortcode pulls the contact’s first name into the subject line.
- In the body, there are shortcodes for calendar name and host name, which personalize the message automatically.
- You’ll also see shortcodes for date, time, time zone, location, and sender’s name.
How to Find Shortcodes
In the Email Template Editor, click the Shortcodes button.
This opens a full list of available shortcodes organized by category.
You’ll find several sections of shortcodes, each related to different types of data you can use in emails or texts:
- Contact Basic Shortcodes:
Includes fields like Contact ID, First Name, Last Name, Full Name, Email, and Phone. - Contact Additional Shortcodes:
Contains more contact-specific fields for deeper personalization. - Financial Shortcodes:
Includes options such as Document Upload Link and Financial Questionnaire Link.
These can be added to emails or texts so clients can securely upload documents or complete their financial questionnaire. - Calendar Shortcodes:
Used in appointment reminders and confirmations.
They pull in appointment details like date, time, location, and host name. - Event Shortcodes:
Used in confirmation and reminder emails tied to events. - Email Configuration Shortcodes:
Important for compliance and formatting.
When using LeadCenter email marketing, it’s required to include the Unsubscribe Link shortcode and the Postal Address shortcode.
These apply to both email marketing and workflow emails.
If you’ve added custom fields to your contacts, those will also appear here as additional shortcodes.
How to Use Shortcodes in Templates
You can insert any shortcode into your message:
- To use a shortcode, click the blue Copy button next to it.
- Paste it into the message body.
- Use the Preview button to see how the final message will appear to the client.
- Once you’re done, click Save to finalize the template.
Wrapping Up
That’s a quick overview of how shortcodes work in both email and SMS templates inside LeadCenter.
Thank you!
